Karen & The Sorrows
Karen & The Sorrows
Brooklyn alt-country band Karen & the Sorrows play "soaring tributes to lost love and… gentle and charming ballads" (Neville Elder, No Depression). Their debut EP Ocean-Born Mary is a four-part ghost story of "allusive, attractive but distantly menacing songs… Country keeps evolving, and Karen & the Sorrows are taking it to a place it's never been before, a good and creepy one." (New York Music Daily) The Sorrows are also hard at work helping to create Brooklyn's burgeoning queer country scene by co-producing the annual Gay Ole Opry festival and the Queer Country Monthly series at Branded Saloon.
Lavender Country
Lavender Country
"Patrick Haggerty released the remarkable self-titled album Lavender Country in 1973. It’s a breezy, old-school-outlaw country record that’s since been tagged as the first of its kind recorded by an openly gay man. The 10-song collection, put together with the help of the Seattle gay and lesbian community, sold 1,000 copies at the time, but the 2014 reissue by the North Carolina label Paradise of Bachelors has contributed to an unexpected resurgence. It’s easy to see why: These songs are played with a great 70s country twang, and their politics resonate way past the final notes, especially in today's culture of expanding equalities." - Pitchfork
Elias Krell
Elias Krell
Singer-songwriter Elias Krell was born in Germany, and lived in England, Greece, Honduras, and Mexico until age ten, enchanted by the sounds of crank organ, accordion, and other street musics. Her music features quirky rhythms, catching melodies, and surprising lyrics in Spanish and English. Elias has released three albums independently and her first studio album is due early 2017, recorded at the Clubhouse in Rhinebeck, New York and produced by Paul Antonell.
