Mykia Jovan is a vocalist and songwriter from New Orleans, Louisiana. Her distinctive voice often draws comparison to the great Billie Holiday and Erykah Badu, while her original compositions and live performances have established her as a singular voice in the modern progressive soul scene. Mykia was recently nominated for Best Emerging Artist in New Orleans, her debut album named a Top 50 album of the year, and had her lead single '16 Shots' included on Spotify's official State of Jazz playlist alongside artists Christian Scott and Kamasi Washington, among others.

Mykia made her debut performance at Essence Festival 2018 performing inside the Good Vibes Superlounge with her band. Following up on her Essence Fest buzz, Mykia completed her first tour performing in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, PA, and Brooklyn, NY as the headliner for Dopeciety’s COUCHES tour.

Formed in 2013 by bassist Amina Michele Scott and trumpeter Cyrus Nabipoor, NORUZ is an instrumental sextet out of New Orleans, LA. Scott has performed regularly in projects led by jazz luminaries Christian Scott aTunde Adjuah and Nicholas Payton while also a full-time member of the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra led by Adonis Rose. A supergroup of sorts, each band member tours extensively with several different projects which makes the time they come together as NORUZ all the more special. Influence and inspiration is drawn from heavyweights The Headhunters and Miles Davis’ Electric Band as well as modern giants Snarky Puppy, Kneebody, and the Robert Glasper Experiment. In 2018, the band held an acclaimed residency at the Ace Hotel, New Orleans where they invited guests to join them monthly. Special guests included drummer Jamison Ross (Snarky Puppy), trumpeter Eric "Benny" Bloom (Lettuce), and vocalist Mykia Jovan, among others. Noruz is currently working on the follow up to their debut full-length, The Witching Hour, released in May 2018.

DJ Chinua is a New Orleans based DJ and event curator interested in facilitating community and connection through the music and culture of the African Diaspora. His projects include collaborations with Solange Knowles as resident DJ for Saint Heron’s Proclamation dance party series, The Arcade Fire as resident DJ for their Krewe du Kanaval celebrations, and Dopeciety as resident DJ for Couches. He is also the founder and co-sound selector for Ascendance, a monthly zodiac themed dance party that exalts and centers the expansiveness of black and brown identity.

A space to meet new like-minded peoples, get inspired, get intimate, be vulnerable. The show aims to provide a platform for under-represented artists & music genres while attempting to remove the “invisible wall” between performers and audience. It’s intimate by design. We’ve presented this show for over 4 years largely based on word of mouth, choosing not to sell as many tickets as possible but rather curate a space that feels good for everyone involved. Produced by Dopeciety.
