"There’s a joke in Oakland that there’s a BART stop somewhere in Brooklyn; that much of a cultural exchange between either city. Both known for maintaining cultural diversity and artistic relevance in the face of rising gentrification, comparisons between the two cities are hard to avoid.

So is the seemingly fateful musical trajectory of Oakland-native-turned-Bushwick-resident, Nappy Nina. Raised the daughter of popular radio personality Greg Bridges in the nest of Oakland musicians, activists and culture makers defining the Bay Area scene of the 90s, Nina took the mic as a poet first before moving to Brooklyn five years ago to pursue music with fellow musicians Alfie Lenox, DJ Inward and Théo Mode. After a series of collaborative releases and residences at local Brooklyn venues, Nappy Nina has emerged on her own – first with the Naptime EP and now their latest, Extra Ordinary.

Featuring appearances and production from the likes of Stas THEE Boss of THEESatisfaction and Norvis Junior, the project highlights how Nappy Nina’s voice has evolved from the hyphy bounce and Yee! tendencies of Bay Area hip hop, to a project as diverse in sonic structure and cadence as it is in content matter and lyrical depth." - Amadeus Magazine
Le'asha Julius
Le'asha Julius
Le'Asha Julius was born in Washington DC. The first of 3 kids, she always seemed to be the center of attention. Le'Asha was destined for stardom. Spending most of her early teens playing basketball gratifyingly well, she decided, freshman year, to drop out of the high school Varsity team in order to fully pursue her education in the performing arts. From there, she went on to attend D.C's prestigious Duke Ellington School of the Arts where she majored in Acting. After graduating Le'Asha was happily accepted into the SUNY Purchase College Conservatory of Theatre Arts and Film where, in her spare time, she joined several bands and help create her newly emerging hip hop duo Quincy Vidal.
Upon college graduation, after self releasing Quincy Vidal's first album, Cookin' in Brooklyn, in 2010. Le'Asha and her partner CE followed up with albums Sentimental Moods (2012) and Utopia/LDZ (2014). Later, they teamed up with record label Styles Upon Styles and released their first widely distributed EP, Chi'ren (2016).

While easing off the Chi'ren high, Le'Asha has been endlessly working on a new solo work that is said to be released soon. A collection of music which, she says, will be somewhat of a surprise to those who have followed her sound since 2010. Catch Le'Asha live in NYC at any of her gigs for a chance to hear what she may be cooking up for her next project.
